We are trying to get settled and see if we have enough staff to expand into pop's kitchen. It has been very difficult going through all this with staffing and finances so we put our efforst into one kitchen until we can get more staff and capacity.
Food, service, and atmosphere were good but $5.50 for a Tecate??
Ok, yum. I had the beef skewers, and they were delicious. Very very flavorful and just the right size for lunch.
I finally found a place that takes care of my island vibes and love of authentic Mexican food. Love this place. Hole in the wall with an amazing view. The staff is professional & very helpful. The food is AMAZING! I know that the people in the kitchen are cooking with love. We had the shrimp fajitas with rice & beans. The margaritas were on point. I wish I lived closer but anytime that I’m near the Jersey shore, this is my go to place. I can also bring my dog so we eat & then walk my baby on the boardwalk. By the way- I wish they offered pan dulce. Love this place.
Shrimp Chimichanga! Excellent! So satisfying I could've ate another!
Pops Garage was a cute place. I had the plantain dish and it was fairly decent, good margaritas, good place to try out if you're in the area.
We found this place through Google. My wife and I wondered how can a restaurant with a great location, get it so wrong? It was incredibly disappointing and we would never patronize this location ever again.
The hubby and I stopped in and sat at the bar for a quick late lunch on Sunday. Kevin had the chicken burrito and I had 2 tacos. Both were delicious and it was fun watching the bartenders mixing drinks and the food staff working hard at the grill. It's a great place for some yummy Mexican food.
Great vibes, great food, super nice people working when we were there! Excellent patio on the boardwalk for people watching or looking at the ocean.
Friendly and delicious mexican food conveniently located on boardwalk. We ordered the street corm, tacos, and la plays burrito. Everything was delicious. Wait wa quick and they were flexible on tables. Needs another bathroom but we would go back. Vegetarian friendly as half our group did not eat meat
We started out at La Tapateria and fate found us at Pops Garage. Now my wife is a real authentic Mexican conosur and was surprised how much she liked the grilled corn and smothered plantains. I like the bar options with the Mexican food on the side. Think we will leave the kids home next time and sit near the bar so we can get into the feel of the place. The main dining room loses that pops garage energy a bit. Highly recommend if you are looking for a pleasant surprise on an old authentic Mexican tag line. Deffinitely do the grilled corn.
My favorite spot to eat on the boardwalk. I always take visitors here. The pops burrito is my favorite on the menu along with the plantain appetizer, so delicious. Service is usually good. I love their margaritas. You really can’t beat the location or atmosphere.
Quaint restaurant with good food and good views.
Honestly used to love this place. Not sure what's changed but the last couple times the experience wasn't so great. The food is still very good it's just everything else. We went a couple nights ago and the alcoholic drinks that we normally order came in what seemed to be smaller cups (yet pricing was the same). When I mentioned it to the waitress she said they always serve them this way. The irony is that we are locals and I had a picture of our last visit making a toast and even the margaritas were in a different cup. Then the service was just not at all attentive which is never good when your at a dine in atmosphere. Not sure what's different- maybe because it's off season. Just disappointed.
Slow service. Food is ok but nothing fancy. Pork and chicken tacos were dry. Would not recommend.
Foods not that good. Sour cream isn’t sour cream. It’s cilantro cream. No air conditioning. Wait staff looks miserable. Young runner who gave out food rolled his eyes when we talked to him. He was rude. I would try another place here but this place did in a pinch.
Great food and excellent staff. Chorizo and carne asada tacos were so good!
Decent Mexican food, not the best, not the worst. Chips were just okay with the guac. Ordered the tacos and none if them really stood out.
Great food! Great view right on the boardwalk. Staff is always friendly!
Great food and atmosphere!!
My wife loves this place, I on the other do not share the same love. It’s not bad food, but it’s not great food. The staff is very friendly at least. My “skirt steak” was 26 bucks and tasted like pure soy sauce the potato pancake was cold. Asparagus was ok.
First and only time I’ll ever eat here. The food was inedible. Every person in my group felt this way so it wasn’t just me being picky. The only redeeming quality was the waitress felt bad and took most of the meals off the check because we straight up didn’t eat them. Really expect more out of Asbury. I don’t know how they stay on the boardwalk.
Went for a weekend lunch pretty early in the day. They were trying not to open the back area of the restaurant because they only had 1 server on duty. But when she saw that my daughter with autism was overwhelmed by the crowd in the front she gave us a table in the back without even having to ask. The food was great and it was fresh. The soda tasted a little off so maybe they need to clean the lines. But I can't wait to go back without the kids and check out those margaritas!
I have had many veggie tacos, these were great. It's very simple food, done very well. The salsa was great. I'll probably go back tomorrow, that's how much I liked it.
Good service but this is American Mexican-style food. The fajita plate seemed to be from a frozen bag to boil to plate... (not grilled) No seasoning and for the price, they are lucky they have a ton of tourists. If this food were in Houston they would have been out of business a long time ago.
Best food in Asbury! Will not disappoint!
Great food, great service. Always grab a seat outside, gorgeous view of the shore. Can never go wrong with a great quesadilla!
Taco place had no beef! Waiter was rude, stated he doesnt usually work that restaurant and didn't know what they have. Probably should find out whats up in the kitchen before hitting the floor
Quite possibly the best burrito I’ve ever had. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff.
Eclectic spot..fresh ingredients..tad bland for my liking but delicious all together good service!
Super delicious! Small menu, great spot, Love AP 😋 ♥️ !
The food was very good. The service, not so much. It seemed that perhaps they were short staffed with what appeared to be only two servers, one of whom was the bartender. Service was very slow for a lunch crowd...took forever to get our bill. We will go back again because the food was definitely worth it.
What a great Mexican spot right on the boardwalk! Had the quesadilla and added shrimp; it was so much food! The salsa was yummy and the vibe was cute. The staff was super friendly. I was here on a rainy Saturday in February, I can imagine it gets pretty packed during the summer.
Good food, good service on a hot & busy beach day. Nice, basic Mexican beer selection.
One of the best mole' sauces I've ever had! Definitely recommend!
I wish i could give more stars, the waitress was as genuinely nice. The food was fantastic and don’t get me started on how awesome the variety of hot sauce was👌
Food was not good. I will not be returning.
I loved this taco place. Right at the boardwalk with an amazing view. Prices are great, the food and drinks tasty.
Absolutely Delicious Food !!! Please try it out service is awesome the way these people run it is just great!! I kept hearing Vicente Fernandez in the background they should share that with the music playing in the dinning area just like a mix but over all is excellent.
Went with a friend on a busy Sunday afternoon... my 1st time there. Our server was fantastic.. fast & friendly, and recommended a few things. 1st we had the chips with guac... OMG!! BEST I've ever had! So addictive!! Then we had tacos.. I had the shrimp which were just as delicious!! I was so tempted to buy more to take home! This will be my 1st stop next time I'm there!I read some weird reviews here about the food. I don't like spicy food. My tacos & the guacamole were not spicy at all... nor did they sit in liquid. They were perfect! *Side note:Someone said the tacos were small.. well if you researched a little about authentic mexican food, you'd see that this is how they are made in Mexico. (We Americans oversize everything)A few reviewers said to go to Loterias.. (or Literios. Not sure of the spelling) but THEIR tacos are like $7 each! So I guess if you have lots of money to burn, knock yourself out! 😉👍
Excellent. Good food and great service, reasonably priced and the food is delicious. Definitely recommend if you're in the area
Stopped in for brunch and a margarita, great food!
I give the tacos an 8. My carne adasa taco was just regular beef. Not bad. Drinks are solid here
Great food and service had a good night there 👍
The server was super friendly and accommodating, which bumped this up a star. However, it's super loud especially in the back room. Food was very average, and the nachos were mostly cheese...
You come here for the location. Can't get much better than the boardwalk with outdoor seating. The tacos are pretty good. The chips and salsa are so so (salsa likely out of a can/jar). Service is OK. They will probably try to nicely force you out as soon as you are done eating to make more room.
The food was a good portion size and tasty. They were very accommodating with a small request in ingredient change too.
The drinks were wonderful, great service but for the cost of food and taste...not worth it. My bf was very displeased 😔
visited Asbury Park yesterday and stopped here on the boardwalk. I ordered a veggie burrito which was absolutely fantastic!!! Waiter was friendly and efficient and the restaurant area appeared to be very clean. Will most definitely be back!
Great food with a great view. I have never had a bad experience here
Love the Margaritas and the quesadillas ‼️ The art on the bar is a cool accent piece for the decor , with the hanging lamps , makes for a cool place to go for a drink; beer , Rita and guacamole and chips 🌽 with fresh roasted corn ❤️❤️ so yummy. Try the plantain. Plus the open sliding doors 🚪 on the beach 🌊 to enjoy the ocean breezes and you are supporting a female chef, ocean environmental activist you can't get any better in life here folks. Put this on your top list of NJ places to visit before going to the #StonePony or the #AsburyParkConvention Center for a concert #tipsandinsidertricks
